Q: Check engine light

asked by on March 06, 2017

My check engine light is on. I went to my local advanced auto parts to see what codes the machine brings up. The only message that came up was P0442 - evaporative emission system leak detected (small leak).

I was advised to check my gas cap and make sure it is tightened. I have checked and it is secure to me. What else should I be checking or look into replacing in order for the check engine light to go off?

My car has 164500 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

It sounds like you may have a crankshaft position sensor that may be on the verge of failing. A crankshaft position sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/crankshaft-position-sensor-replacement) is an electronic device used to monitor the position or rotational speed of the crankshaft. This information...
