My xc90 has power i got a new battery but it will go a day sometimes 2 or 3 and not start at all. Then it will go weeks without a problem. But i noticed since its been very cold it wont start when its below freezing Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the battery, particularly the terminal connections? Are they corroded? Its a brand new battery and there is no corrosion Mechanic's Assistant: What year is your XC90? 2005 Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your XC90 yourself? What have you tried so far? No a mechanic changed the battery Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? Well my wipers quit working 2 days ago

Hello, my name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I will be helping you with your question today. I've been working on Volvos for over 30 years now, so I should be able to help you through this. Please understand that some of my suggestions may require special diagnostic tools and equipment that many home mechanics may not have, but are often required. So, my first question is whether you're planning on performing your own repairs, or are you wanting to be armed with information before bringing it into your mechanic? **Also, the site automatically prompts for a phone call. It's very rare that I'm available by phone, so let's hold off on that for now. If needed after we exchange some information, I will do my best to take the time for the call.** Couple of other questions: 1) do you have a VIN available? 2) was the battery ever draw-tested in order to determine if there is an electrical consumer staying on after the car is shut off and locked?

No my title is in the carNo i dont work on carsNo im fine texting
Automotive Expert
Ok, understood. I'm suspecting that there is some component staying on after you shut the car off, which is drawing down on the battery reserves. I can post the draw test procedure for your mechanic, if you'd like. I will say that one common area of concern with this particular model of Volvo is a failure with the blower motor regulator, which will keep the blower fan running until the battery dies **Again, as I mentioned initially, this site (not me) will prompt for a phone call. I'm currently not available by phone, so ignore these site-generated prompts please.**

i do sometimes hear something running under the hood after its turned off
Automotive Expert
Sometimes there is an after-run function that will keep the \*cooling\* can on, by design, but only for a few minutes.

when im turning the key when its doing that the lights go off and on
Automotive Expert
That will happen if the battery is very low

I was reading about the mod or the battery in the key could b bad. Or a fuse
Automotive Expert
The key battery will not affect this at all, and if a fuse was blown, it wouldn't be an intermittent problem

But its a brand new battery. And sometimes i can start it by putting it in neutral or by turning the lights on. Also 2 days ago my wipers quit working
Automotive Expert
Ok, then it starts to get significantly more complex, and likely requiring some specialized equipment in order to diagnose. Your mechanic...a Volvo specialist or more of a general shop?

how much do u think it will cost to b fixed.
Automotive Expert
Usually diagnosis of this sort is about a 1-2 hour charge, so the cost will be dependent on the shop's diagnostic labor rate (usually $110-150/hr)

my alarm hasnt worked for a while and the other day when i was driving it said my alarm was activated
Automotive Expert
Then another possibility on these, which is also pretty common, is the alarm siren, which does include the alarm control module, in the luggage compartment of your car.

I hear a clink sound when I put my car in reverse
My guess is that you have a bad transmission mount or motor mount (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-long-do-engine-motor-mounts-last). You probably noticed this more when the engine is cold because the idle is higher. A trained professional, such as one from YourMechanic, will be able...
Can a bad breather filter located under the PCV valve cause my car to turn off after starting it?
No. You should look at the ignition switch not supplying power to the ignition when it is in the run position. This is the most common cause of stall after starting. The ignition switch supplies 12 volt power to the...
Am I able to drive with misfiring cylinders?

Backfiring under hood 2008 Chrysler 300
Hello it sounds like perhaps one or more plug wires (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-often-do-spark-plug-wires-need-to-be-changed) were not re-attached in the correct order. This is especially easy to do on an engine like yours that still has plug wires routed all over the engine. The...

What could cause a clicking noise under the valve cover of my 1982 Mercury Grand Marquis
