For about a week I have been hearing a squeaking noise under the hood. I don't know a lot about cars, but it didn't seem serious at the time because the car was running fine. Then, 2 days ago, the noise got suddenly louder and the car started to run hot. I checked under the hood and the noise seemed to be coming from the serpentine belt, but everything still seemed intact. I wanted to get the car closer to home, because I was a few miles away. Got back on the road, within 5 minutes, smelled a strong burning rubber smell. Pulled the car off the road, looked back under the hood, the serpentine belt was broken. Had to be towed back to town. I had no choice but to have it towed to a pep boys that's within walking distance to my house. They diagnosed the car as having a broken water pump, broken serpentine belt and also needed a new belt tensioner for about $650. ust got the car back yesterday, and the car is still running hot. Very close to overheating. Still coolant in the tank.
