Q: Car heater is not working!!! It has coolant and it is not overheating, it was wroking fine when I bought it then the next two days

asked by on March 03, 2017

I purchased a used card about two weeks ago. The first day the A/C and heater worked fine. the next day the A/C wasn't blowing cold but warm. Then the next few days the heater wasn't warming up. I took it to the mechanic he mentioned a thermostat error, but the car isn't overheating and I put 50/50 coolant and antifreeze in it, now its blowing sort of warm. Could it really be the thermostat?

My car has 80000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Charging System indicator light is on
Hi there. If the charging light is on while the engine is running then that is almost always an indicator of a failing alternator. You should start by checking the connections at the battery to see if they are clean...
Shaking at low and high speed, clicking noise from the left front tire
Hi there, thanks for writing in. The issue you're describing is most likely due to failed or damaged wheel bearings (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-bad-or-failing-wheel-bearings) on the driver side. Every wheel on your car is attached to a hub and inside this hub is...
I have a parasitic drain of 150 milliamps from my alternator, is that normal?
The battery going dead (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/battery-is-dead-inspection) in a couple of days is not normal and if you did the parasitic drain test correctly, then you are correct to condemn the alternator for the excessive draw. The alternator is most likely shorting...

Trouble starting unless I prime the fuel pump, turn off key and then prime again and start it.
The most common cause of the fuel system not holding pressure up to the injectors is the fuel pump inside the fuel tank. The fuel pump has a check valve built into it that is supposed to keep pressure to...
I'm not sure if it's a thermostat or the water pump that needs replaced
The heater not working in some cases may be related to the overheating problem you are also having. This may be due to a faulty heater blower motor or potentially a bad heater core (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/heater-is-not-working-inspection). As you may know, the...
I need my timing belt replaced for my 2011 Chevy Aveo and I was wondering if it's also necessary to replace the water pump? Someon
The timing belt should be changed at 100,000 miles. If the water pump is driven by the timing belt, the pump absolutely should be changed when you change the timing belt. Indeed, aftermarket timing belt kits include the water pump,...
Is it bad to drive without the trans filter?
Hi There, As you may know, a transmission requires hydraulic pressure generated by the transmission fluid (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/transmission-fluid-service), which forces the fluid into the valve body. When this happens, it activates a shift solenoid that engages the next gear. When the...
