Q: Battery Light on

asked by on

The Battery Light is on.

Hello! The Battery Light indicates that there is a failure in the charging system. This should be diagnosed and repaired sooner than later, as a failing charging system can leave you stranded. The charging system needs to be tested to see if the alternator, or voltage regulator, has failed. Sometimes, the voltage regulator can be replaced separately, which helps in reducing the cost of the repairs. On some newer cars, the voltage regulator is controlled by another control unit, and the car must also be checked for codes. You will need the aid of a mechanic who can scan for the code, and test the charging system to properly diagnose your Battery Light illumination issue.
