He texted me asking if he could show up early. I explained that I would not be available until the scheduled time. I was very adamant about him not showing up before I was home, he said he would only take a look and wait for me to be home. By the time I got there he was already more than halfway done, had already test driven the car, and found all the issues. I think that the customers wishes should be respected, and if you tell someone you'll wait for them you should probably wait for them.
