New brakes successfully installed. He had to reschedule for the next day and then ran a little late, but he called both times to notify me with a good margin (the day before, and about an hour before, respectively). There was a little extra charge for removing a bolt/screw thing that he had to take off by force since it was stripped, but it wasn't too crazy. I saved about $60 over doing this with Firestone, and for me it was a pretty good experience.

Q: Shutting off and difficult startup - 1978 Jeep CJ5
Answered by James
Hey there, thanks for writing in. It sounds like you may have a large vacuum leak (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/is-it-safe-to-drive-with-a-vacuum-leak). Ensure the PCV system is hooked up correctly and that there are no broken or damaged vacuum lines. A smoke check of the...

Hi there. The problem with replacing the rear main oil seal (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/why-crankshaft-seal-replacements-can-be-tricky-by-marvin-sunderland) on a Jeep inline 6 is how delicate the process can be. Most professional mechanics do this job by removing the engine; giving them plenty of clearance so...
Q: Jeeps stalls at traffic lights - 1979 Jeep CJ5
Answered by James
From the description it almost sounds like an air/fuel mixture issue. Possibly caused by unmetered air being sucked in at closed throttle. The vacuum system should be checked along with the intake manifold gasket. If no leaks are obvious, a...
Q: Brakes don't work properly. Hard to push - 1960 Jeep CJ5

Since you do not have power brakes, a clogged hose line or fitting may be the cause or a sticking/binding caliper (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/brake-caliper-replacement) may be the issue. You may want to enlist the help of a mechanic, such as one from...

I have to be honest, this was the first time that, I have EVER felt 'at-ease' around an auto mechanic. Jonas was thorough and straight forward with me about the issues; gave me a quote directly after doing the diagnostics on the car and, as it turned out, it cost me less than the original estimate. When does that ever happen with auto repairs ?? He was friendly, informative and knowledgeable. You folks made the whole experience convenient and painless. I'm "sold" on the "Your Mechanic" concept. I'll probably never take my car again to a traditional mechanic !! Jonas was a pleasure to deal with !
