Hi. I have a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta. My power steering and heat went on the highway today then the battery light came on Mechanic's Assistant: Have you tested the battery? Have you tried testing the alternator? Yes Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Jetta yourself? What have you tried so far? Nothing so far. Battery is brand new about 3 months old

Hi! My name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I will be able to assist you. I’m sorry that you’re having trouble with your vehicle. Don’t worry though, we’ll be able to figure this out. Please understand that I do not know your knowledge or capabilities so I may need to ask questions to find out basic information to help solve your specific problem. With most newer automobiles, they have sophisticated electrical systems that can rely on different computers or modules to keep everything operating correctly. Most of the time specialized equipment is needed to test these systems. If you do not have this type of equipment for testing then we can only guess what the problem is. Yes there are common failures for certain symptoms but without testing, there’s no way to determine the specific problem unless testing is done. Who do I have the pleasure of speaking with today? My goal is to give you the best service possible and to help you. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to let me know. Sometimes it may take a moment for me to respond because I may have to look up information about your concern. I appreciate your patience and will provide responses as soon as possible. The system will give you an automated phone call offer to speak to one of us on the phone **. It is optional.** Some folks prefer to talk on the phone. If you don’t, please ignore it as I cannot control the offer from popping up. It sounds like you may have lost the serpentine belt. Open the hood and check the belt to see if it's still in tact. If it is then you may have a seized pulley. Also check to make sure you have plenty of coolant and power steering fluid. My goal is to earn a 5 star rating experience. Any questions you have about this concern, please feel free to reply back to me. If I’m not online at the time, I will respond ASAP when I get back.

My name is RoseI have a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta. I have never had any problems. I did just recently about 3 months change the battery out. When I was on the highway today my heat stopped. Then I realized my power steering went. Then my battery light came on. I got off the highway turned my car off. Let it sit for a few minutes. Turned it back on and the check engine light was on

Hi Rose, nice to meet you. It sounds like you may have lost the serpentine belt. Open the hood and check the belt to see if it's still in tact. If it is then you may have a seized pulley. Also check to make sure you have plenty of coolant and power steering fluid. The check engine light will come on when the computer sees a problem that affects the performance of the engine or transmission. There are many problems that can fail that will trigger this. It could be a faulty sensor, wiring issue, module fault, engine malfunction, etc. To see what specifically is causing the light to come on the vehicle will need to be tested with a scan tool that connects to the vehicle. This test will provide a trouble code that describes what specific system is having the problem. If you can have the vehicle scanned and can give me the code, I will be able to tell you specifically what is wrong with it. If you do not have a scan tool then you can bring your vehicle to any auto part store and they will scan it for free and give you the trouble code. I would do this ASAP so that we can determine what the problem is and keep any other problems from happening.

Is the car safe to drive to a place like 2 miles down the street to get this done

As long as it doesn't overheat. Pay close attention to your coolant level and make sure it doesn't overheat.

But I have no temperature gage for my car

It give you an overheat warning if it's overheating.

I found this. And the belt is completely off

that will do it. You should be able to replace the belt and be good but make sure to check the pulleys too. They should spin freely.
