Q: TRANSMISSION PROBLEM

asked by on February 04, 2017

CAR STOPS ACCILERATING WHILE DRIVING. IF I TURN OFF AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES IT WILL GO AGAIN. HAVE HAD NO SIGNS OF SKIPPING. JUST HAPPENED RANDOMLY THE OTHER DAY. WILL GO IN TO GEAR WHEN IT WANTS TO. TRANSMISSION IS 1 YEAR OLD

My car has 290000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hi There, What you are describing sounds like possibly low transmission fluid or a bad speed sensor or potentially a faulty transmission control module, which also controls the speed sensors. The transmission control module has various sensors such as vehicle speed sensors, wheel speed sensors, throttle position sensors, turbine speed sensor, and transmission fluid temperature sensors that all direct information to it in order for it to perform it’s function. Other functions controlled by the TCM are components such as a kick down switch, traction control system, and cruise control module. Any of these may also affect the way the transmission control module performs and controls the transmission and the shifting of your vehicle. A faulty transmission control module may cause also cause a delay in acceleration or erratic shifting of gears. I would suggest having a professional from Your Mechanic come to your location to properly diagnose your transmission problem.

If I replace the ignition switch, can I use my existing BMW Keys with remote and valet key?
Yes, you can. The ignition switch is separate from the EWS system, so replacing the switch (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/ignition-switch-replacement) will still allow you to use the current keys you already have. Only if you have to replace a faulty key or EWS...

The EPS indicator came on when I started my 2007 Honda Fit.
Yes, you should. There may be a problem with something as simple as a position sensor or there can be an intermittent fault from the electronic motor that give you the power steering assist. The warning like came on and...
Check engine light flashed 10 times then went off when car was started
Generally, the check engine light (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/check-engine-light-is-on-inspection) comes on when something fairly serious is going on with the vehicle. This can happen for many different reasons such as a faulty mass air flow sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/mass-airflow-sensor-replacement), a faulty O2 sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/oxygen-sensor-replacement), a...
My 2006 Dodge Charger failed emissions twice. The first time for MIL Command status and second time for KOER Result
The underlying fault depends on exactly which codes have been stored by your vehicle's OBD-II system. Those codes can be downloaded using a hand-held scanner but then each code has to be separately diagnosed, that is parts have to be...
