Q: Transmission

asked by on January 12, 2017

Doing a swap, what tranny use the 4.6. 5r55w or 5r55e?

My car has 100000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

For this 2004 year Mercury Mountaineer they were only equipped with a 5R55S transmission for the 4.0 and 4.6 liter motors. The only different transmissions would be for rear wheel drive or all wheel drive. They are both 5R55S base transmissions.

Hi and thanks for contacting YourMechanic. Check the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor for any corrosion or burned pins. Check for power to the sensor. Back probe the wires...
Battery light and air bag light comes on and off

Engine revs up and down when in park and sometimes in drive/reverse; have replaced IAC valve, and the map sensor 1998 Honda Prelude
Hi there - the P0505 (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p0505-obd-ii-trouble-code-idle-control-system-malfunction-by-jay-safford) code you are getting indicates a problem with the idle air control circuitry. Since you have replaced the IAC valve, this could still be a problem with the connectors or wiring to the IAC....
