Hi, most vehicles now a days have an electronic lock that releases when you step on the brake pedal. The lock is a safety feature that keeps the transmission from being put into gear accidentally. If the lock gets stuck or the brake pedal sensor does not pick up that you are stepping on the brake, it will not release the lock. A technician will be able to inspect if its the actual solenoid or the switch that needs to be replaced.
