Q: Possible defective alternator

asked by on

We think our new alternator is defective.

Hello. The best thing to do would be to test your battery and alternator to check to see whether your alternator is defective or if your having a battery issue. The battery starts your car, then the alternator takes over powering the car and charging the battery. If the alternator is bad the battery will not get charged and the Battery Light should come on. The battery and alternator check can be done by a certified technician, like one from YourMechanic. They will be able to diagnose your issue and replace your alternator if necessary.
