Q: Overheating when sitting, cools off when speed gets up. 2004 Dodge Durango

asked by on February 23, 2017

Dodge has been overheating since 2012. Had mechanic look at and said it was a head gasket and replaced it. Was fine for about a year then started overheating again. Took to a different mechanic who said it was the water pump and replaced it(so they said). Didn't over heat for 6 months then started again, took to a friend who's a mechanic and he said the water pump had a leak. He replaced it &worked fine again. Then in 1 year started over heating again. Checked coolant and was empty. So from then on i have just made sure the coolant was full. Then 6 months ago It overheated, took to different mechanic, they did pressure test and said radiator, upper&lower hoses and thermostat needed changed. We couldn't afford that so got a second opinion. They changed one hose filled coolant up & said they couldn't find anything else. Now yet again overheating! Coolant empty again! Coolant has to be leaking for some reason?! Help!

Check Engine Light was on. Got it tested and they told me it was the thermostat - Chevy Aveo 09
Hello. It should have gone off by now depending on how many miles you've put on it since the repair. Sometimes when a scanner reads a thermostat code it could be a coolant temperature sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/coolant-temperature-switch-sensor-replacement) which sends a signal...

What does it mean when a car acts like it's in neutral when it's in drive? I finally got it & won't accelerate over 40?
You may have an internal transmission problem and will need to have the computer scanned to see if there are codes stored indicating the failure.
