Q: Oil leak in ML350 2007

asked by on February 15, 2018

On a recent visit to local oil change shop, they said there is a multiple oil leaks starting from valve gasket, and said they can not repair it as they it can only be done by Mercedes Benz dealer.

I would like to first get a second opinion on the leak and then possible fix it.

How it works with your system, do you come out to give opinion and make sure the it is the SAME problem? Can you fix it (as as per the local shop it can only be fixed by local dealership?).

More information from you will be very helpful.

Thanks, Rashesh

Oil/Fluid Leak Inspection $94.99 - $114.99 Get a Quote

Repairing oil leaks requires the replacement of gaskets, seals, and o-rings and such work can be performed on all models by any competent automobile mechanic. Unless you have already received a detailed and authoritative diagnosis (identification) of all the leak points on the engine, what you can do is request a comprehensive oil leak diagnostic. The responding certified mechanic from YourMechanic will pinpoint the leak(s) and prioritize them if more than one leaking component exists. If you do have oil leaks, as many leaks as possible should be repaired because leaking oil can damage external engine components such as rubber motor mounts. Also, if oil is leaking onto a hot exhaust manifold that can create unhealthy fumes (as the oil burns off) and is also a fire hazard. If you want the sources of the oil leaks identified and the repair estimated, simply request the oil leak diagnostic and the responding certified mechanic will get this resolved for you promptly and professionally. If you have further questions or concerns, do not hesitate to re-contact YourMechanic.

Hard to turn.
The power steering most likely has an issue either in the pump assembly or in the steering rack itself. The fluid level in the system needs to be full with the proper fluid. This is done with the engine at...
Gas tank will not fill up
This is most likely a problem related to what is called an evaporation canister (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/evaporative-emission-control-canister-replacement) in the fuel tank which is responsible for venting the tank as you fill it up with fuel. When this is clogged or not working...
Long crank time, low idle, and poor to no acceleration.
Hi there, thanks for writing in. I'd be happy to offer my insight. I would suggest checking the idle air control module (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-idle-control-valve). If the motor is starving for air (similar to an engine being choked at normal operating temp),...
Rattle in exhaust then a puff of smoke
Hi, thanks for writing in. I would assume that the vehicle is still under the factory warranty. It would probably be best to take it to the dealership to have it looked at under warranty. It sounds like there may...
How often are you suppose to replace a new throttle sensor ?
The throttle position sensor (TPS) (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-long-does-a-throttle-position-sensor-last) is only replaced if it tests bad. So there is no fixed replacement interval or "lifetime" for that part. They do occasionally fail though, in which case the Check Engine Light will illuminate with...
The steering shaft (I believe it's the intermediate shaft) disengaged from the steering column.
Freely turning the steering wheel past the normal extent (travel limits), while the shaft is disconnected from the splined yoke will damage the "clock spring" in the steering column that the air bag relies on to fire. That assembly should...
I was told I needed a new transmission. I am not sure if that is the problem.
If the transmission was always shifting smoothly, but only after purchasing fuel that day you immediately experienced reduced performance, I would first suspect (and try to rule out) bad gas. Excepting frankly easy to detect significant, and non intermittent, electrical...
The power steering fluid leaks from my car very quickly.
A large leak, such as that you are describing, will be easy to pinpoint. Causes of power steering leaks vary from the mundane (a simple failed return line hose; no big deal to fix) to the somewhat more complicated and...
1998 Ford Ranger 2.5L stalling when put into drive.
