Q: Not shifting into overdrive

asked by on February 22, 2016

My Lexus won't shift into overdrive.

This transmission is electronically shifted. Possible causes of no overdrive include a faulty transmission range switch, valve body, faulty overdrive brake, or faulty ECM. Faults codes should be read out with a scanner, and statuses read. You may want to enlist the help of a mechanic who will have the test equipment, the wiring diagram, and expertise to diagnose the overdrive issue.

I accidentally got synthetic oil instead of regular motor oil and only put in quart and a half. Will it mess up my engine?
Hi there. Today's synthetic oils are much different than in years past, so accidental mixing like you've described is not as damaging to the engine as in years past. However, I would recommend having the oil changed (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/change-oil-and-filter) sooner rather...
Sun roof won't close and I can hear a click from the roof but nothing happens.

It is possible that your coolant temperature sensor is faulty. I would recommend having this sensor tested for proper function and replaced if necessary. Consider YourMechanic as this can be done at your home or office.
