Q: Knocking after turning left seems to go away when straightening up 2004 Peugeot 407

when turning left from stand still heard a knocking noise from front of car (peugeot 407 04yr) next junction listend (was right turn) could not hear anything, next slow speed left turn heard what sounded like a knocking ( like when a bearing goes) since, i have made sure the sound is coming from the steering. I have to drive for a few miles on a motorway to work and am concerned if it could be dangerous could you give your advise please
