Hi Edgar. Thanks for contacting us today. Honestly, there are probably multiple problems with your Jaguar S-Type that are leading to all these symptoms. Some of the common reasons why an engine would stumble, or cut off while driving or slowing down include damaged mass air flow sensors, EGR valve or a throttle body that is damaged. This is quite common with early 2000 Jaguar models. This could also be due to ignition system component failure, such as spark plug wires, coils, or spark plugs that are worn out as well. Since there are so many possible sources, including the source of the engine ticking and smoke, it’s probably best to have a professional mechanic inspect your vehicle to determine what needs to be repaired or replaced.

After hour or so driving, engine starts to sputter as if not receiving fuel. Stop for 10 mins and it runs fine.
The stalling could be due to a heat induced failure of the ignition coil. Resistance of electrical components increases with temperature and if the coil is the issue that is why the stalling only occurs once the engine is hot....
I am 3 hours out of town, can I drive my car home to my mechanic?
Yes, you should not have any problem driving home. The RSC light indicates that there may be an issue with the "roll stability control" which is related to the traction control system in your vehicle.
