Its an easy test to see if there is 12 volts at the connector before the starter which is easy to access.

with a test light see attachment . you need to gain access to that connector and then probe the test light point to the purple wire and the alligator clip to ground and have a second person try to start the vehicle . if the light comes on you will need a starter!!
