Q: Low kilometers on the odometer

asked by on November 01, 2016

20000km and its 14 years old, I'm getting Raa to check it would they be able to see if it has been rolled back?

My car has 20000 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

Hello. The best way to determine if the odometer on a vehicle has been rolled back is to compare the readings with the maintenance and service records. At 20000 kilometers there should be at least a few service records to reference. If none are available, then it may be difficult to detect if the odometer has been rolled back. I would also carefully inspect the entire vehicle, the interior as well as the engine bay and brakes. If the vehicle as a whole appears to be in above average condition for a vehicle of that age, then it may be possible that the vehicle was simply well maintained and not driven very much.

I recommend having a certified mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, perform a pre-purchase inspection to check on the condition of the car and make sure its condition is as you are being told.

What others are asking

Truck cranking, but not starting.
To see why this truck will not start you will need to see if it has lost spark or fuel. You have replaced most of the ignition system except the ignition module was not mentioned. This would cover the ignition...
How do I remove the antenna?
The antenna can be removed to help your vehicle fit into short places. The antenna should also be removed any time you use an automatic car wash. To remove the antenna, simply unscrew it by hand.
120K-mile service suggestions
Have an experienced automotive technician, such as one from YourMechanic, inspect all of the vehicles fluids and note the condition. Your brake fluid must be flushed (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/brake-system-flush). The transmission must be drained and refilled (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/transmission-fluid-service) with fresh fluid. Do not...
Do i have to change my shocks and struts to get lowering springs, or can i just get the lowering springs?
It is generally recommended that you change the shocks/struts when you use lowering springs. Your stock shocks and struts are designed to operate up and down in the range the stock springs provide. Lowering springs are shorter than stock springs...
At highway speeds, car loses power
I would check the fuel pressure (for being low) before doing anything else. If it is, check the fuel pressure regulator (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/fuel-pressure-regulator-replacement). (A clogged catalytic convertor would be a constant problem, not intermittent as you describe.) A professional mechanic, like...
I was driving down the road and my truck was running poorly then died. It will crank but not start.
Hi and thanks for contacting YourMechanic. Check the air filter (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/air-filter-replacement) for it is not dirty. It may sound silly, but if the air filter is dirty the engine will not start up. Starting fluid produces its own oxygen so...
VALVE Cover GASKET Replacement
Hi there. Assuming, the valve cover gasket was properly replaced. The smoking under the hood, may have been residual oil burning off the exhaust manifold. The white smoke seen coming through the grill, may have been the snow turning to...
Engine occasionally cuts out while idling at a stoplight and occasionally hesitates and bucks upon acceleration.
There is a issue with the fuel delivery to your engine. It seems as the fuel pump may be failing. Check the fuel pressure on the fuel rail and see if there is at least 30 psi. If the fuel...
Trouble code P0705.
Hi Christopher. Thanks for contacting us tonight. The P-O705 OBD-II trouble code (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/p0705-obd-ii-trouble-code-transmission-range-sensor-circuit-malfunction-prndl-input-by-blake-griffin) indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) or Transmission Control Module (TCM) has received an input error from the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS).
