Q: Key not working

asked by on February 28, 2016

My key will not turn the car on.

There are many questions that should be answered before diagnosing this type of question. Does the key not turn the ignition, or does the ignition turn but the engine will not crank, or does the engine crank but with no start? These are questions that would have to be answered before the vehicle can be diagnosed. I recommend seeking a certified mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, to come and test your vehicle’s key ignition to determine what repairs are needed.

The stop lamp fuse is in the left kick panel inside the vehicle. It is a 15amp fuse that powers the stop light switch on the brake pedal. The brake light switch (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/brake-light-switch-replacement) sends power to rear brake lights.

I would recommend checking with your local municipality on this one. Calling the non-emergency police number and asking them would either get you the answer you need or lead you to the person who can answer your question.
