Was the torque converter replaced for this reason...........or a different reason?

I replaced it and the main seal it was leaking. Put it all back together only to have it leak again then replaced the pump seal. Buttoned it all back up and its not leaking just sounds like when you down shift and the motor revs higher and it slows down
Automotive Expert
Thanks. Well it sounds like your trans is just not shifting out of first gear so when you back off the gas then it’s still in first gear. That would also explain why you’re revs are so high. Triple check you’re shift cables and make sure they are routed correctly otherwise you’re looking at an internal trans issue.

Ok it downshift when I step on the gas and it kicks down like its supose to. Am I understanding then that when it is kicking down on acceleration it's not shifting out of the lower gear
Automotive Expert
Yeah you’ve got some pretty messed up shifting going on. Check the cables as I suggested and if they’re good then a replacement trans is needed.

Ok I will check then next time I can. Why would replacing the torque converter and pump seal mess up the shiftingThe tranny worked fine before it started leaking. I caught the leak right away
Automotive Expert
Cables can be misrouted/binding, front pump can be damaged from incorrectly installed converter or if it was removed then the pump can be improperly installed.

To test the cable out if I just disconnect the kick down cable from the carb would that work to see if it's the cableWill it hurt it if I try with out the kick fown cable attached
Automotive Expert
Won’t hurt anything it just won’t kick down gears.

Ok this would tell us if it is the cable right
Automotive Expert
Yup

Ok that didn't change anything
Automotive Expert
Ok, so now you know the next step.

Witch is
Automotive Expert
Well, I mentioned it earlier, you'll need to look for a replacement trans or tear this down and overhaul it.

Ok thanks
Automotive Expert
You're very welcome.
