2004 Honda Civic LX the relay on the [fuel pump](/topics-fuel-pump-honda/) buddy of mine is actually going to leave messed it up and I replaced it and it started up right away with no problems and it still started for about a week or two but just last night I tried to start it and it wouldn't start there were times I act like it wanted to start but wouldn't start and then the relay start making a click noise. Is that my fuel pump and I have not tried starting fluid yet which I think that was started up right off the back Mechanic's Assistant: How many miles are on the Honda? Has the Honda been starting normally? Only 173400, it was starting normal after I replaced the relay and it was fine Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Civic yourself? What have you tried so far? Well so far since I've gotten a Honda I've replaced the starter I then replaced the [thermostat](/topics-thermostat-honda/) and then just a relay and I was in my work truck and last night I tried to start the car and it wouldn't start it act like it did but it didn't that's the only work was done it has a new [water pump](/topics-water-pump-honda/) and everything else to it it's been replaced Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? No that's pretty much the main thing what do I have to do to get it to start do I need to replace the fuel pump cuz the clicking of the relay just started

Hello, my name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I'm sorry your having problems with this vehicle so I'll try to help you with this issue. The website may prompt if you want a call, but that would be up to you. So when you tried to start it does the relay clich and the engine turns over or the engine does not turn over? If your hear a clicking and the starter is not turning the engine over then it is possibly the battery is weak or a bad connection at the battery clamps.

I hit yeah I hear a clicking in the cranking relay which I had replaced because of Buddy of mines actually accidentally cracked it and hit it and blew it and once I replaced it it started up just fineStarted and it clicks and it don't start over at all it tries then it don't doesn't

So where is this relay you are talking about?

Fuel pump relayDelay that's inside the glove compartment of a 2004 Honda CivicRelay
Automotive Expert
the main relay from what your saying and these do have a few issues, and may need to be replaced again., with a Honda replacement. So let me look at some info and I'll be right back.

Okay yes it was strange because after I replaced the relay crank right up and I drove the East Texas and I drove back to Dallas and it was fine and just last night I tried to crank it and it did that and then start making it click noise

So check all the connections at the relay and at the battery clamps as well, if that does not help replace the relay to see if it does it. On some models there was a recall for the relay but I don't see it on this one, You may call the dealer to see for sure as there is a recall for that on some models.

Yeah now that you mention that the connection to the fuel pump relay does feel loose like I can move it to the itself

Check to see if the plug end is getting hot or burned as it may need a new connector as well as a new relay.

Ok that's amazing that's good news because it really tried to turn over a couple times and just seemed like it wasn't getting enough fuel to me that's what I really know that what it was I was I was planning on getting a new relay and replacing it and if it starts like that then I know for sure it's the connecting piece

I hope it goes well for you, and for a better new year as well.

Ok likewise and happy new year to you and your family

thanks
