Q: Heavy toxic smell coming through AC vents

asked by on

Coming from engine area - intermittently I get a heavy toxic smell from the AC vents - what do I do? What is malfunctioning?

My car has 136000 miles.

Hi, thanks for writing in. This may be potentially a smell of AC refrigerant if you have a refrigerant leak. This sometimes happen when there is a leak in the AC refrigerant system. I would recommend having an expert from Your Mechanic come to your home to diagnose and repair this leak as it is very dangerous to inhale.
