Hello. Put in new battery and [starter](/topics-starter-ford/) on a 1993 Ford F-250 but no lights on or anything Mechanic's Assistant: Just to clarify, what are the exact lights you're talking about? Dash lights or battery lights or any lights seems like a dead battery but it isn’t and it’s a manual tried to push start it and everything but doesn’t seem to want to start Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model of your '93 Ford? 93 Ford F-250 3 qtr ton 4wd Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far? Yes I am, got a new battery and also a new starter cause I got it from a buddy of mine all he said was it needed [brake](/topics-brake-ford/) work so I fixed those and a starter but it wouldn’t start so I got a new battery also. Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? And I’m wondering if it could be a steering column? Like the ignition? Due to the key not connecting into the ignition for it to turn over?

Hi, my name is\*\*\*\*\* to justanswer. Lets see if we cant get you rolling again. Does the [engine](/topics-engine-ford/) crank over normally when the key is turned? **During this conversation you will be given an automated offer for a phone call from justanswer, not me. You may accept or decline that offer. I don’t personally offer this service so if you take this another tech may call. Thank you\*\***

hello jim my name is d\*\*\*y, and no it doesn't crank there isn't any power at all
Automotive Expert
Hi Danny, pleasure to meet you. Have you checked the starter relay mounted to the inside of passenger fender for corroded connection?

the solenoid right?pleasure to meet you also Jim, and ye dive checked it and it's not corroded and would that have to be mounted to my fender? because it's literately sitting behind my battery that's how i got it and there's an old one that's already mounted to the fender.
Automotive Expert
Correct, solenoid. Sorry about that. It checks ok? Power on either side?

i tried no power at all. i checked fuses to be safe and a few were blown out or burnt out.
Automotive Expert
Yes. it gets grounded when mounted to the fender.

that could be why correct?it isn't mounted to the fender it's just sitting there, wires are hooked up but it isn't mounted
Automotive Expert
It could have something to do with it. Hook that baby up and see what happens!

the old one is still mounted to the fender and no wires on it or anything i didn't bother checking if it was still goodwill do jim is this your number so i can get ahold of you if needed?i will hook it up right now and see if that could be why while hooking it up i take off the battery correct?
Automotive Expert
Yes, i would disconnect the battery just to be safe. That is not my direct number, that is thru justanswer. But to save you a few bucks, we can continue online. If that is ok.

yeah we canhow would we continue to talk online.
Automotive Expert
Just like we are now. Type back and forth.

Okay, on what website?
Automotive Expert
Where we are now, on justanswer

OkayHello so it’s dark here now so I will get bundled up and try to mount it to the fender.
Automotive Expert
Are all the cables and wires hooked up to the old one still mounted to the fender?

No their not their on the new one sitting behind the batteryThe old one is still mounted but I wasn’t sure if it worked so I left it n the new one how I got it.
Automotive Expert
Okay, just wondering. There is a quick test with a screw driver we could have tried. Go ahead and mount the new one up.

Okay and yes we have a 89 Ford we have to start form the solenoid on the fender
Automotive Expert
Are you saying it started with the screwdriver?

No this ones a 1993 our older pickup a 89 we used to start it with a screw driver on the solenoidThis one I am currently going to take off the old solenoid and see if I can hook up the new one and see if it’ll start from the hood. If not I will try a screw driver
Automotive Expert
If it starts with a screw driver crossing the posts, that mean the solenoid is bad. It is a simple test.

Okay so if it starts it’ll be fine till the morning and I’ll go get a new one
Automotive Expert
Yee haa!! Very nice.

haha. i sill text back in 20 minutes to tell you if it starts or how it's acting then.
Automotive Expert
Sounds good. I should still be online.

hello jimi put the solenoid on and it still doesn't have power i'm thinking it's a sign i just get a new steering column because this one doesn't have a key and everythingit's loose no air bag it's a old ranch truck.
Automotive Expert
Hi Danny. Is it the steering column you are referring to that is loose? You could always rig up a push button start.

it is the steering column and it's still not startingi grounded the solenoid maybe it could use a new one?
Automotive Expert
Is the black wire connected to the "B" stud on the solenoid?

let me go look
Automotive Expert
Hooked up like this:

no i can't tell it's kinda old but i'm not too sure if it's lettered and mine looks differentthat's how this ones set up

Looks like it is connected. Yours is turned sideways. I would use a test light to check for power at the ign switch wire when the key is turned to crank the engine.
Automotive Expert
Any luck?

no luck at all
Automotive Expert
Is there power to that wire while turning the key?

there's no key so i'm not sure shy it's not starting
Automotive Expert
How are you turning over the ignition?

by hand the guy said no key but he says he drove it without a key
Automotive Expert
Were you able to check for power at that wire?

i wasn't
Automotive Expert
You are gonna need to start there. Have somebody turn that ignition while you probe that wire with a test light.

okay i will try that in the morning right now it's pretty dark and chilly her e
Automotive Expert
Best of luck, have a good night.
