Hello I have a 2003 Lincoln town car Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Town Car yourself? What have you tried so far? It just messed up. It will not start anymore but wants too. It turns over. We replaced the alternator but still isn’t working Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the battery, particularly the terminal connections? Are they corroded? We charged it and yes we checked Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? No , thank you

Thank you for taking the time to let us help you out with this problem and hopefully we can sort it out quickly. Please understand that I do not know your knowledge or capabilities so I may need to ask questions to find out basic information to help solve your specific problem. Sometimes it may take a moment for me to respond because I may have to look up information about your concern. I appreciate your patience and will provide responses as soon as possible. The alternator would not keep it from starting. Since the engine is turning over, that tells us the battery is good and the starter is good. First make sure ALL the fuses are good inside and under the hood. There are many possible causes for this problem. It could be faulty wiring, ignition system fault, module fault, fuel system problem, engine sensor failure, etc. To determine the problem you would need to use a scan tool that can read engine data and record data so you can see what specifically is happening. Is the fuel trim off?, is the crankshaft sensor signal gone?, etc. This would be the only way to figure it out. Without testing I would suspect that you are losing fuel pressure either because of a bad fuel pump or a problem with the wiring/module fault. If the check engine light is on, that would help out a lot because it could identify a specific fault. You would need to have the computer scanned to get the trouble codes stored in the module. If you can give me these codes, I would be able to pinpoint a specific cause for this problem. My goal is to give you the best service possible and to help you. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to let me know. If I’m not online at the time, I will respond ASAP when I get back.

Thank you. I am currently not home to check these as I am at work also.

Car has parasitic battery drain.
I would have a technician such as one from YourMechanic do a parasitic drain test (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/battery-will-not-hold-a-charge-inspection) on the battery. This is where you connect a amp meter to the battery and pull out fuses until the drain stops to determine...
Can caliper paint damage brake rotor
Only if you leave it on there. You can paint it and if it gets on the caliper, all you've got to do is turn the caliper, get some brake spray cleaner, spray it on, and wipe it off. Paint...
Rough idle and hiccup back threw throttle body and causes smoke out breather
This is a common issue when what is called the idle air control valve (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/idle-control-valve-replacement) is not working properly. This regulates air flow into the throttle body at idle speeds as it is mixed with fuel prior to being injected...
I checked the Check Engine Light and the code P1700 came on which relates to the throttle position sensor. How do I fix it?
Hi and thanks for contacting YourMechanic. The code P1700 is stored from a faulty vacuum box on the transmission kickdown cable or a vacuum leak. Check under the hood for any vacuum hoses that are broken especially the ones to...
Bmw 745i Transmission Failsafe
Transmission Failsafe means that the transmission controller has detected a problem with the transmission or any of it's sensors that is preventing it from working properly. In your case it seems to see a problem when you attempt to get...
Rear brakes locking up.
If the ABS light is on, there will be diagnostic codes to access. Those codes will provide enough clues to dig into this. I would first obtain those codes simply because they will give a direct indication of what components...

You most likely have a intake vacuum leak. You should have the computer scanned first to make sure you do not have a TPS problem or other sensor issue. Pinch off the vacuum line to the brake booster to see...
