Is the engine light on? When was the last tune up and how many miles on the vehicle?

The check engine light is on. I changed the MAF sensor about 10-15 mins ago and it popped back on soon as I gave it a couple revs. The odometer is showing 146,000 but it was broken when I got it so could be well over that. I'm sure it needs a tune up but pulls strong then starts to sputter at about 3500 to 4grand. If I cruise it's not bad but noticeable at the least

Ok what was the number of the code stored ? Feels like its losing spark or fuel to you ?

Something like that. I didn't get a chance to check the code because it's saying it's not connecting to the computer which worry's me a little cuz it may be the computer itself

If it is saying no communication with the scanner that is not good as yes you are right the PCM can very well be the issue . I would check that for any signs of water or corrosion but it still can be shorted internally. In the meantime you can do a complete tune up as well as cleaning out the throttle body and see if that makes any difference if not they you need to focus on the PCM and fuel pressure. If I did get another pcm would I need to get it flashed or is it just plug and play. I'm not exactly sure if the car has a anti theft system which I'm sure it does?

If it has the anti theft it will need to be programmed but you can try and if it does not start swap the old back.

Hey Tom. I ordered the ecm came in today. Changed [spark plugs](/topics-spark-plug-ford/)(oddly about 6 out of 8 was hand tight)wires, [ignition coil](/topics-ignition-coil-ford/), cap and rotor button but may be taken it back cuz it's making a ticking sound as if it's hitting something while it spins. Put everything in and it drives flawlessly.......until I plug the MAF sensor in. ‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️‍♂️

That's what I'm wondering maybe it's some not able to see with the naked eye.I did see a bit of a crack in the air box but that wouldn't throw it off that bad would it

It very well can as you know these Mafs are super sensitive

When I plug it in and put it under load it loses all power till I get off the gas and it seems as if it starts right back up. If I unplug it completely it runs like nothing is wrong with it at all

It appeared to be clean. Butterfly wasn't caked up with carbon. But isn't there a passage way in there some where

Sorry need to check the egr valve as well as the ports to see if there clogged as well.

Well while you were away I made a discovery. Moved the wires inside the air box leading to the MAF sensor and the idle changed. Believe a short in the wires

Ok absolutely that’s the issue. It’s in that harness or the pins in the connector thought that might be the issue. Just remember if you have to repair the harness disconnect the battery so no other issues occur.

Think I'd have to buy one second hand since they don't sell the whole one new.
