2005 Ford Escape v6. Had a bad A/c compressor. So I replaced with a new one. Added my 4oz of oil and can not get the clutch to engage (i will jump it later to add Freon) in the meantime I noticed the radiator fans are not kicking on (they were working previously to the A/c compressor being replaced). To diagnose to radiator fans I have checked the fuses and they look good. 8 also replaced the relays and jumped the fans to the battery (which they do come on at that point). So my next step was to replace the temperature switch sensor, which I did and the fans still are not engaging. I feel like I have done everything I know to do and still can’t come up with an answer. Also note previously to all of this last year the heat was not blowing as hot. At that time I back flushed the lines and added new [coolant](/topics-coolant-ford/). The heat worked a little better or so I thought. But again with all that is going on now the heat is not the best again, which is one of the reason I thought it was going to be the temperature switch that was bad.

Hello, my name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I'm sorry your having problems with this vehicle so I'll try to help you with this issue. The website may prompt if you want a call, but that would be up to you. So you will need to jump the ac clutch relay to put some freon in and then the fans will likely work as they will not work until there is enough high side pressure in the system, the high pressure sensor will not turn the fans on until the pressure comes up.

Ok so once the A/c compressor gets the right amount of Freon the that will kick the Radiator fans on?
Automotive Expert
yes, as the temp gets high enough or the pressure does.

Well shit. I knew I was missing something. I just never put the high pressure into my though process. Thank you Sir for your time.

Hey Kurt. So I got the A/C clutch jumped and started adding Freon. So far I have emptied a 20oz R-134a into the system and got the fans going too. It seems that every time the fans kick on it throws my the Freon from filled to low. Like I said I emptied a 20oz can. It seems I am needing to add more. Does that seem about right? Should I go with another 20oz or just get a smaller can? Also I’m still not getting the best heat out of the system. Is there anything I should test or do before I chalk it up to a bad heater core?
Automotive Expert
hang on a few mins. I'll be right back So this system uses 32 oz. so a smaller can will do.

Ok cool.

As for the heat it could be the [thermostat](/topics-thermostat-ford/) is not working as it should so I would try a new one first and make sure you get the air out of the cooling system when you fill it up.

Ok thanks man
Automotive Expert
your welcome.

Yeah I think I will flush the system again when I replace the thermostat. I remember when the issue first arises the coolant levels were low so I added more coolant and that seemed to warm it up a tad. And that’s when I did the back flush. I didn’t get much dirt out. After I refilled I tried sqeezing the air out. But still wasn’t the best heat. I just noticed today that the coolant seemed at good levels still but there are specs of dirt in it still. So I am hoping by replacing their thermostat and draining and back flushing the lines and then refilling it will start to work much better.
Automotive Expert
I would try that and use a coolant flush sold at parts store like from prestone

Ok thank you Sir, for all your time.
