Q: Effects of prolonged use of drive 2

asked by on

When to engage drive 2
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hello there, drive 2 is a lower ranger gearing inside your automatic transmission. If the vehicle is left in drive 2 for a long period of time the fuel mileage will worsen and top speed may be limited. Drive 2 should be used when going uphill if the engine is struggling in normal drive. A qualified technician such as one from YourMechanic will be able to inspect your vehicle if you are concerned there was any damaged from leaving the vehicle in drive 2 for a long period of time.
