Q: dashboard

asked by on

part of the dashboard lights up when you turn on lights.

My car has 160000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

The information given is not enough to give a proper assessment. If the dashboard illuminates when it is not supposed to, there is a short in the system somewhere. You will want to find where the dashboard wiring and the wiring for the other lights that you are referring to intersect or run parallel together. This is where they would make contact, so the voltage flowing to one crosses over and lights up the other as well. What part of the dashboard lights up? Is the issue the fact that the other side doesn’t light up? What "other lights" are you referring to that trigger the dashboard? Some circuits are designed to turn on the dashboard when they illuminate.
