Q: Car hard to start and hesitates

asked by on January 22, 2016

My car is hard to start. When it does start, it idles high, and hesitates when the gas is pressed. It has two brand new fuel pumps and fuel filters, a new idle control valve, new spark plugs and wires, and new fuel injectors.

Thanks for asking. With all of the work that has been done to the vehicle, I would recommend having a mechanic, such as one of our YourMechanic experts, inspect your starting issue. Your symptoms sound like an air/fuel metering concern where either too much air or fuel has entered the mixture. This can be caused by miscalculations through a faulted sensor, leaking seal or failing mechanical component.

The statements expressed above are only for informational purposes and should be independently verified. Please see our terms of service for more details

If I shut my car off it doesn't restart.
Well the first thing I would check is to see if the alternator is working. (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/car-starts-and-then-dies-inspection) I would suspect it would be in the distributor. Ignition module, tdc sensor. A few voltage tests can tell you for sure. I would...
How to clean out a gas tank that has been sitting for 10+ years.

Fuel Pump replaced now car won't start 2007 Saab 9-3
Hi there - the story certainly doesn't make sense. Excessive fuel pressure (https://www.yourmechanic.com/question/fuel-rail-sensor-faulty-or-fuel-pressure-too-high-by-dee) won't "ruin an injector", although it will certainly leak and cause high fuel consumption, as well as a rough idle and rough running. Check for problem codes,...
How do you remove the alternator I have a 2010 toyota venza v6

Battery isnt charging while driving?
It sounds like you may have a failing voltage regulator or failing alternator. As you may know, the alternator charges the battery while the engine runs by generating amperage and recharging the battery while the engine turns the alternator pulley....

There are a number of things that may cause the car to hesitate (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/engine-hesitates-during-acceleration-inspection) when accelerating such as low fuel pressure, a dirty or faulty mass air flow sensor, clogged or dirty fuel injectors, a faulty throttle position sensor or...
Hi, what kind and brand of oil do you use for 2010 Infiniti G37? Thank you.
