Q: AC rattling sound

asked by on March 22, 2018

2006 Honda CRV. was driving along and the AC started giving a rattling sound from under the hood. Was and still throws out cold air. My Mechanic tells me a $1600 repair for the full new AC system and tells a story about shingles being circulated around and possible contamination etc in the piping. I havent used my AC ever since and is disconnected internally so that I can use the heater. Should I replace the clutch alone? The car is too old and I cant afford to fix it when there are uncertainties about the quality of the work.

My car has 163000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.
