Q: Average miles per gallon

asked by on April 07, 2017

What does avg mean on my dashboard and how do I get it off, just appeared on dash

My car has 23000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hi There, Assuming you are referring to the avg reading near the fuel mileage calculator, this relates to the average miles per gallon calculation that the computer calculates related to the fuel economy. This is nothing to worry about and is just a feature to help you determine how fuel efficient your car is depending on your driving habits. There should be a button that will allow you to change the average reading to different settings such as "miles to empty" or "instant miles per gallon."

Hello. From what you describe, it sounds like you may have bent an arm or two in your rear suspension. This is something that needs to be repaired sooner than later. A tire pointing in the wrong direction can cause...
Transmission leak
The pan is the most common leak area on these transmissions, but it would need to be inspected to see if the case, or filter, is the cause of the leak. If you are low on fluid, I recommend that...
Using 10w-30 accidentally instead of 5w-30
Yes, it's just a little bit heavier (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/why-does-motor-oil-viscosity-matter), nothing much. You'll get slightly lower gas mileage, but that's the only thing. A lot of guys, as their engines get older, go and switch to 10-30w anyways, when they get older...
How to replace the timing belt and camshaft
Ideally, you should have aligned the marks before you removed the timing belt. It sounds as though everything is completely disassembled already. This makes things a bit more difficult. I would only recommend assembling it the same way as you...
Coolant leak/ loose belt.looks like tensioner is loose. Could it be that just the water pump gasket is bad?
Coolant can be leaking from a number of seals or gaskets. If it seems to be in the water pump area, odds are the water pump shaft seal is leaking. While it is possible the water pump gasket is leaking,...
I've got a 2012 328i, twin turbo 4 banger. Tpms malfunction, says all four tires are flat but they're obviously not. Advice?
Hello. If the TPMS system is showing that all four tires are flat then they are either low in air pressure, or there is an issue with the TPMS system. I would first check the air pressure on all four...

There are a number of places where the coolant may be leaking from such as any one of the radiator hoses going to or from the radiator or motor, the thermostat housing, or the water pump. i would suggest having...
where is the coolant temperature sensor located 2002 mercury sable
Hi there. The coolant temperature sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/coolant-temperature-switch-sensor-replacement) on most Ford (Mercury is a Ford product) V-6 engines is located on the intake manifold, front of the motor and next to the primary coolant hose. If you don't have one currently,...
2001 Honda Accord Ex Transmission
What you are describing is often a sign of low transmission fluid (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/transmission-fluid-service) or a faulty transmission control solenoid. As you know, automatic transmissions use pressurized hydraulic fluid to change gears. Every time a gear change is required, the car's...
