Q: Starter grinding

The highway started to accelerate something popped In the motor compartment I thought it was a tire then the vehicle died the whole time after the pop it made a grinding noise once it stopped moving I tried to turn it over u hear the starter engage the motor doesn't turn over and eventually something catches and the grinding noise starts until u let off the key
