Q: oil change

asked by on January 03, 2018

I GOT AN OIL CHANGE ON 12/23/2017/ 5 QRTS OF OIL SHORTLY THERE AFTER MY CAR BEGAN SHUTTING OFF AT TH LIGHT OR WHEN I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. FAST FORWARD TO 1/2/2018 MY CAR SHUT OFF AND WOULD'T TURN OVER AT ALL THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER COMES AND SAYS YOUR OIL STICK IS BONE DRY AND THERE'S NO OIL IN YOUR CAR AT ALL ... COULD THEY HAVE POSSIBLY NOT PUT THE OIL IN MY CAR UPON DOING MY OIL CHANGE? CAN 5 QTS OF OIL DRAIN OUT YOUR CAR WITHOUT YOU SMELLING OR SEEING ANY PUDDLES? NOW MY CAR WONT KICK OVER AND ITS MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND IN MY ENGINE WHEN I TRY TO TURN IT ON . DID MY ENGINE JUST BLOW?

My car has 98000 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

It sounds like the facility that performed your oil change may have forgotten to refill the motor with oil after draining the old oil. If there were no signs of visible smoke, smells or oil leaking anywhere, it is quite likely that this is the case. Unfortunately, if this is the case, this may have caused some major engine damage. I would suggest having the vehicle towed back to the shop that performed the oil change to have them inspect to confirm this.
