Q: My 06 PT Cruiser will not start and the Check Engine Light is on. It turns but will not start, what does this mean?

asked by on

My 2006 pt cruiser will Not start, it turns but will not start and the check engine light is on, I just got an oil change and I haven't been having problems with the car nor have the check engine light been on until now.

My car has 11938 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hello - first task is to determine what problem codes are set with the Check Engine Light. It is possible this is a problem with the wireless control module being "locked up". There is a Chrysler technical service bulletin (232597) that addresses the fix for this condition.

Removing the battery cable for a minute or two, then reconnecting the cable will provide temporary starting to get you to the dealer. It is also possible that this no-start condition is caused by a failed crankshaft position sensor.

Get the problem codes read for faster diagnosis. I would recommend having a Check Engine Light inspection completed by a mobile, professional mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, who will come to your location, diagnose this problem, give you an accurate assessment of damage and cost estimate for repairs.

Q: My car sounds really loud when I crank it every morning

Hi there. Not sure what you mean by "extremely loud"; whether you have an exhaust leak (sounds like there is hole in the muffler), mechanical noises (cam actuators have leaked down, and are noisy until oil pressure comes up), worn...

Q: If you was hooking up a OEM cooling fan that has only 2 wires and one speed but my car has a high and low speed, what wires would you hook up?

Hi there. Check the high and low circuits with a digital meter for a voltage reading. The low should have a lower voltage reading than the high. I recommend putting the wires on the high selection to prevent the engine...

Q: Check Engine light on

If the Check Engine light came on in relation to the fuel cap being replaced, then that means it may not be a fuel cap related problem. I would recommend having the vehicle scanned for trouble codes by a knowledgable...
