Yea I have a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis and I just recently tried 2 turn my car on and it started up until I turned the lights on. Once i turned the lights on, the engine cuts off, but everything stays on like the dashboard, radio, and even the AC. I then tried 2 start her up again and it wouldn't comeback on, all I could really hear is some kind of static everytime I turn the ignition. So I let it sit after a while and instead pumped the accelerator 3 times before turning the car back on and it does just that. But as soon as I again try to turn the light on or use a signal, it immediately cuts off again. So at this point I'm just lookin' for some insight on the issue and what's the best course of action 2 take. Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the fuses? The dashboard bulbs? I checked the dashboard, everything is lit up when it cuts off, but if I pump the accelerator and start the car again, the dashboard goes back 2 normal. Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Grand Marquis yourself? What have you tried so far? No I'm just looking anything weird or consistent the car does and I've really done nothing but pump the accelerator to get it back on. Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? Yea when the car turns off when I cut the lights on and I again try 2 cut the car back on normally, it seems 2 be some kind of static everytime I turn the ignition and if I turn the lights on, it makes a weird little noise

Welcome to Just Answer I'm Chris aka Moose, I'm sorry you are having problems with your Mercury. I will do my best to help you get this resolved. If I happen to be helping another or step away during our communication, please know I will follow up as soon as I am back available/online. I try to be online for about 10+ hours a day, midday and late-night shift. - Can you tell me the battery voltage on the posts and cables with the engine running? - If you do not pump the pedal does it still crank strong and fast? - If you rev the engine to 2000+ then turn on the lights, will it still stall?

Since you were not able to reply to the info request I sent. I cannot be as accurate and thorough as I would like. I hope what I can provide does help. It is possible that you have an alternator that is failing not producing enough amps to power the engine electrical components and the high beams coupled together at the same time. Thank you for visiting Just Answer, I hope I was able to answer your question. If you need to follow up on this concern please use the reply button. If you like my answer please reply so I can mark your question complete. Moose

Recommendation on oil changing intervals
No, you sill have to change it once a year. That's the problem with the engine oil. If you don't use it much, then water builds up in it since, as you burn gasoline (which is nothing but hydrogen and...
When you start off it bogs down and then takes off?
This sounds like potentially a fuel delivery or air regulation problem. There is a sensor in your truck called a mass air flow sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/mass-airflow-sensor-replacement) which regulates the flow of air into the engine allowing for the proper air/fuel mixture...

Cold engine makes cracking noises on start
Hi, most likely, this noise comes from worn internal components in your engine that momentarily do not have oil pressure to eliminate metal-to-metal contact. When oil pressure comes up, usually within a few seconds of engine operation, pressurized oil prevents...

Can I buy parts that are to be installed , or do you have to buy them. as in replacing an alternator.
If you provide the parts for a repair the parts warranty you got when you purchased the part is still good. You will not be covered for labor warranty for parts replacement when you provide the parts.

Hi There, It sounds like you may have a failing cylinder head gasket allowing coolant to leak from the water passages into the cylinders resulting in the coolant being burnt in the combustion chamber with the fuel. If this is...
