Q: I was driving and I lost all power going to the transmission but the engine stayed on.

asked by on May 22, 2017

I was driving home just cruising around 40 mph when the speedometer dropped to zero. A few seconds later I felt like the car was in neutral even though it was in gear. I tried downshifting and nothing would work. I stopped the car and tried to drive again. I put it in first gear and let go of the clutch and nothing happened. The clutch was fully released in gear and nothing happened. No movement, no stalling.

My car has 91000 miles.
My car has a manual transmission.

Car won't start keeps clicking. 2004 Dodge Durango
Hello. A click noise when the engine is started is usually attributed to a bad battery (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/battery-replacement) or connection (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/battery-cable-replacement). If the battery was recently replaced, I would make sure that it is adequately charged, and that the battery terminals...
blow by around pcv and around oil breather cap.
Hi there. Engine blow-by is the result of combustion gasses getting past the piston and/or piston compression rings, this builds crankcase pressure. The PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve system is designed to remove the pressure and recirculate the gasses back...

I went to get an oil change, and the mechanic noticed a leak in my transmission. This was on Saturday. They put more fluid in it.
There could be a leak on the input shaft, output shaft, oil pan, dipstick grommet, or the seal on the shifter linkage could be leaking. I recommend seeking out a professional, such as one from Your Mechanic, to help you...
