Q: I need to figure out whether to replace the gasket to my turbo or if that is not the problem for excess air flow to my turbo.

asked by on February 06, 2017

My check engine light has been on for a couple hundred miles now due to excess air flow to my turbo because i have a 2002 1.8t. i tightened the bolts to my turbo and it seemed to have temporarily fixed the problem and quieted down the rattling, and it always shut off my check engine light but when i plugged in my code reader afterwards, it was still saying there was excess air flow to my turbo and i had noticed a blackened color around the seams of the gasket to my turbo which led me to believe it may be my gasket acting up, because i have slap shift and even driving automatically my car sounds like it is not shifting correctly and it is pulling too much power from my turbo to my battery and either completely drained my battery or is on the verge of it, my car needs jump started and will not stay charged. please help.

My car has 172400 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

How do I find the tire identification number (TIN)?
The tire identification number (TIN) helps you know what specifications your tires are. This is very important when the time comes to replace your tires. Your TIN is located along the outside of each wheel; however, if it is worn...
How heavy of a trailer can I tow?
The towing capacity is varied by how your truck is equipped. In a Ram 1500, a V6 is good to about 3750 lbs and a V8 is good to about 5000 lbs. For the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500, it...

A piece of cardboard/paper from the coolant jug was accidentally dropped into the coolant tank.
Unfortunately, this tiny piece of cardboard will not dissolve in coolant as it is designed to withstand the chemical makeup of the coolant. This can become lodged in areas inside the radiator that will prevent the proper flow of coolant...
Leaking coolant, dripping off engine block near oil filter. 2006 Dodge Ram 1500
Hi - yes, almost certainly this is the water pump bearing seal leaking (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-water-pump). I would replace the water pump immediately. Modern water pumps have a remarkable ability to hold water right up to the instant they fail completely -...

Hi there. I understand your concern. You can perform an oil consumption test similar to what I have performed while employed at the Toyota/Lexus dealerships. Perform a fresh oil change. Clean everything. Note the level on the oil dipstick. Zip...
