What you are describing may be a result of a faulty speed sensor, potentially low transmission fluid or a even a faulty transmission control solenoid. As your vehicle travels down the road, the computer analyzes data being sent by vehicle speed sensors and engine speed sensors. Based on this information, the Engine Control Unit (ECU), or the Transmission Control Unit (TCM), executes the appropriate upshifts and downshifts by sending a signal to one of several shift solenoids. These transmission solenoids have spring-loaded plungers inside them, which are wrapped with wire. When this coil of wire receives an electrical charge from the TCM / ECU, it causes these plungers to open, allowing transmission fluid to flow into the valve body and pressurize the desired clutches and bands. When this happens, the transmission changes gears and you continue down the road. The computer controls the transmission solenoid in several ways. If the vehicle is equipped with a dedicated Transmission Control Unit, it can open or close the hydraulic circuit using a direct 12v signal. In some cases, the Engine Control Unit (ECU) can control the solenoid’s plunger by turning the ground circuit on and off. When this is not working properly, this can cause a jerking reaction, a delay in shifting or in some cases may cause the transmission to hesitate in shifting gears. I would recommend having a professional from YourMechanic come to your location to diagnose and inspect your transmission.

Windshield wiper not working
Hi. Your windshield wipers are supposed to work together as they have a mechanical connection to the wiper motor. If only one of the wiper arms is not moving, then you have a disconnected wiper. Under the front windshield trim...
leaking gas underneath. right where the transmission cover is. right at the very end bolt of the trans bolts rear bolts
Hello. A fuel leak from underneath the vehicle is probably going to be caused by a faulty fuel line. I would carefully examine all the fuel lines that run underneath the vehicle, placing extra attention on the ones that run...
Traction Light coming on
Hello. Your car is equipped with wheel speed sensors (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/wheel-speed-sensor-replacement) at each of the four wheels which monitor wheel speed while relaying this information constantly to the ABS and traction control system which are controlled by the car's ECU. When...
My car sounds really loud when I crank it every morning
Hi there. Not sure what you mean by "extremely loud"; whether you have an exhaust leak (sounds like there is hole in the muffler), mechanical noises (cam actuators have leaked down, and are noisy until oil pressure comes up), worn...
I wanted to buy a used 2008 Porsche Cayenne s. Is it a good idea and would it cost me a fortune maintaining and repairing?

Misfiring and jerking when accelerating.
The jerking reaction you are experiencing may be related to a dirty or failing mass air flow sensor (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/mass-airflow-sensor-replacement). This is a component that measures the air intake as it enters the intake of the engine reading and relaying this...
Oil cap is under a vacuum.
The vacuum is due to the (PCV) Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve (https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/positive-crankcase-ventilation-pcv-valve-replacement) being plugged up. I recommend replacing the PCV valve and the issue will go away. When the PCV valve is plugged up, the engine crankcase cannot breathe and...

Gettin s light brown coolant color wit s sweat smell was wondering how to tell if it its jus the fitting or the radiator itself
Your coolant is sweet smelling and is normal. The oil in the coolant is not normal and is most likely caused by the transmission oil cooler inside the radiator that is leaking. First remove the oil cap and look for...
