I appreciate your patience and remember even if I don’t respond immediately I am working diligently on your issue. Sorry to hear about your issue. I have a few questions before we continue: - What [engine](/topics-engine-ford/) size? Or you can provide the 8th digit of the VIN # - RWD or 4WD? - Did the vehicle die while driving or would it just not restart after you shut it off? - Will any of the power work? Radio, [headlights](/topics-headlight-ford/), hazard lights, interior lights?

Ok if I'm looking at it right the 8th in my vin is K. I think it's 4wd. The lights and radeon work. It died while driving after I tryed to jump my husband's car and did not get his jumped
Automotive Expert
Did the lights begin to dim before it died or did it just shut down out of nowhere? Are you able to crank the engine (do you hear it spin when you turn the key) or does nothing happen when you turn the key?

It just died out of nowhere I think. It spins like it wants to do something but dosnt
Automotive Expert
Okay, this means the battery and [starter](/topics-starter-ford/) are good. We have an issue with the engine cranking but not starting. Let me pull some information. Is this a diagnostic you are going to try and do yourself? What type of equipment do you have access to?

Not very much. What r something's that would be needed
Automotive Expert
See attached for what you will need to test. Minimum you will need an OEM capable scan tool and multimeter. You might need to add a fuel pressure tester and compression tester to this as well. . An internal combustion engine requires 4 things to start: 1. Air 2. Fuel 3. Spark 4. Compression If your engine is not starting, you are losing one or more of these. This is the first place to start as this will tell you what systems are being effected. Check the following: 1. Scan the engine for failure codes with the scan tool - this is always the first and most important step 2. Spark - test for spark using a spark tester or test plug [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UyxRc2lCvk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UyxRc2lCvk) 3. [Fuel Injector](/topics-fuel-injector-ford/) Pulse - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzeOz-seIQE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzeOz-seIQE) 4. Fuel Pressure - this requires a fuel pressure gauge (see attached) Testing these items will give you a good idea of what system is failing. Then you will use the attached diagnostic steps with the wiring diagram and your scan tool to identify the source of the issue. . I’m glad that I was able to answer your question today. Thank u we may have u help with his car as well but mine is home and we can get to working on it his we have not gotten home yet
Automotive Expert
Understood. Have a safe evening.

Oh also the when the very cold weather came thru after it was gone my vehicle started puttering and making a knocking noise
Automotive Expert
Knocking noise generally indicated internal engine damage. Especially if the vehicle did not have the correct antifreeze in it when we had the cold weather. If the engine was refilled with water instead of the proper antifreeze mix it will potentially crack the engine.

My husbands started doin the same thing and he had antifreeze in his car. Because we thought that could of been it but not if both of us have the same problemI ha e just been putting water in mine till we got it fixed because of the cost to keep using antifreeze and it being wasted because of the leak
Automotive Expert
Yes. But if you are only using water, the temperature gets and stays below freezing and your garage is not heated then the water will freeze. Water expands when it freezes and this cracks engine blocks. This is why antifreeze is used and engines are equipped with freeze plugs to prevent this type of damage.

I no but what I'm saying is my husband's car is doin the same sputtering and knocking noise and he used antifreeze and it started happening at the same time after the bad weather so what could be the issue with his car
Automotive Expert
Won't know until you complete the tests. Both vehicles sputtering should not be the same thing. Only things I could think of is if you both filled up with gas from the same gas station and both got bad gas or someone tampered with your vehicles in the exact same way. Not many times would 2 vehicles have the exact same symptoms in the exact same way and be related to the exact same cause. But depending on how old his [coolant](/topics-coolant-ford/) is and how cold it got, it still could have been weather related as if you don't change your coolant regularly it loses it freeze/boiling points. But the first step is to diagnose the cause of the issue as I've outlined previous. Until we do that it's all just guess work.

We get gas at 2 diffrent places and he said someone could have which I'm like but why. But yeah I will be glad to figure out what's goin on and get past this thank u for ur help so far I will show my husband all this and let him get to work on it and get back to u I like using the same person so I don't have to resay anything and they know what's goin on. I'm texting u now I'm not on the website so would I need to use the link still to get u or just text
Automotive Expert
Yes. Sounds good.

Since we r texting would we be able to send pix and vids of stuff.
Automotive Expert
You can send pictures, not entirely sure about videos but sometimes they work depending on how you send them.

Ok. We do not have any of the tools but the code scanner my husband went to work on his car early this morning to get it home the battery was dead had to get a new one and still having problems gettin it home but he got it here so it would get towed. We have been cleaning the [spark plugs](/topics-spark-plug-ford/) and caps have one more to do and he has to configure the app for the scanner to my suv to properly get a code. Since his battery died it wouldn't read his. But that's what's happened so far
Automotive Expert
Sounds good.

He did scan mine just to see what it would do before configuring it and it was saying something about the fuel and something else level. And it made me think before it died the noise u was describing was gettin worse then I was loosing acceleration before it died

Did u get the pictures
Automotive Expert
Yes, I'm sending you the diagnostic steps shortly.
Automotive Expert
See attached for code details and pinpoint test. Do not worry about the P2270 until the lean condition is resolved.

My husband has homework to get done then he's gonna go over this and figure stuff out
Automotive Expert
Sounds good.

Ok so husband did another test and he will send me the outcome from it soon. Tomorrow he is goin to get a new oils filter new oil clean the oil tank and also get new hose where the radiator is leaking and flush the tank and get new antifreeze and see what happens after that when he gets off work
Automotive Expert
Understood.

He also tryed charging the battery because it wouldn't turn at all and after it would try to do something but he guesses with whatever is wrong it didn't want to start

Battery is at 9.1v, replace the battery.

Yea we got a multi tester today and that's what we figured was a problem so we r gonna do that tomorrow we were goin to change the oil and oil filter today but we couldn't get it off without the tool so he's getting it tomorrow. We also got a compressor tester to check that tomorrow after the oil and battery and go from there. He thinks the problem is when it was cold the oil got messed up and wouldn't flow and maid the car hot and because of that the hose busted and probably messed up some kind of springs I forgot what he called them. Also because of the cold the battery wasn't at it's greatest and trying to charge my husband's car killed it. We r hoping that's it and we will be done with thisOh he got a new air filter today as well
Automotive Expert
Ok.

Yay. How long do u need someone to do ur dressings
Automotive Expert
???

Ok so my husband took my battery to AutoZone to test it and possibly get it replaced. They said it's fine and holding a charge and said what's sounds like the issue is is the [oil pump](/topics-oil-pump-ford/) and suggested a traveling mechanic around here he knows to look and will be here Thursday to see what's wrong because we r tired if guessing
Automotive Expert
Okay, if you don't have oil pressure it could be an oil pump issue. It's difficult to say without being able to test the necessary components.

I have been getting a oils pressure warning since all this startedWe were thinking and hoping it just needed the oils and filter changed because that's another thing my husband dosnt want to fix himself
Automotive Expert
Yes, if you are getting an oil pressure warning then that is something different. That's generally cause by low oil or an oil pump issue. Then the concern is potential upper engine damage from the engine running without getting the proper oil to the top of the engine for lubrication.
