Hey. When I drive my ford [taurus](/topics-taurus/) se 1999. It feels that my [brakes](/topics-brake-ford/) are constantly scrapping and not releasing. There's a scrapping sound at all times while driving and gets worse when I brake. The brakes do work. And I release the parking park before driving in reverse or drive. Either way, the car does move. The [engine](/topics-engine-ford/) works. The wheels and brakes are the problem. Also! My tire went flat two now and the other ones are not holding pressure they are all new tires. Had them 2 months only Mechanic's Assistant: When it comes to this particular vehicle, have flat tires been a problem in the past? Not that I'm aware of. When I first got it, only one tire went flat out of no where. I noticed they were old tires. I replaced all of them at the same time Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Taurus yourself? What have you tried so far? Yes I had other engine problems before the brake issue came along. I had over heating probkems. I fixed that with new [thermostat](/topics-thermostat-ford/) and hoses. Did a flush. My ac fan works but I don't think the cooking fan does And also probably a big thing to mention It doesn't go into gears the same as it did before. The shifter is wobbly and doesn't line the gear change correctly. Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? I sometimes have to start u No

Hi my name is \*\*\*\*\* \*\*\*\*\* I will be assisting you today. The system will offer a phone call but please disregard. So to start with it sounds like you have a sticking caliper. Have you had the brake pads inspected for wear? Does the noise sound like it’s more to the front or rear?

Front for sure. I took the front driver tire off and inspected somewhat. Can I send pictures?

How does the front passenger look. And did you also check the play in the wheel bearing?

It's dark out right now. I'll have to do that check in the am
Automotive Expert
Ok

Hello. What's the "play in the wheel bearing"?
Automotive Expert
the best way to check for play is by raising the vehicle or wheel that is being inspected and move the wheel back and forth to check for slack if there is slack then you have bad tie rod ends or a bad bearing.

installed wire harness kit causing brake lights to stay on trailer and causing brake lights on car not to work
Hello there, it sounds like something may have shorted out. The brake switch system can only support so many amps of power, and with the addition of the trailer lights, it may have exceeded the capacity and caused the fuse...
Stuck brake caliper
Although it is possible for a collapsed (internally and thus "invisible") rubber brake line to cause a retraction failure, by far the most common scenario is the caliper is sticking. If the calipers have more than, say, 70,000 miles on...
How can I tell if it is my water pump or thermostat that needs to be placed?
The water pump moves the coolant through the system and the thermostat regulates this flow to maintain operating temperature. If the water pump has failed, the coolant will not flow through the system so the temperature will rise quickly and...
My mechanic says I need a throttle body with a vacuum hose for my 04 mercury mountaineer. I've found throttle bodies but none of them mention a vacuum hose.
Hi there. The best thing would be to check the throttle body that is currently on the engine. If the throttle body has vacuum hoses to it, then you would need to get a throttle body with a vacuum hose...
