Hi there. When a car runs out of gasoline, it can cause serious damage to the fuel pump and other fuel system components. If you’re able to start your car but it quickly dies, it is likely that the fuel pump is damaged and not supplying fuel at the pressure it should. If gasoline is not readily available, or if there is not enough spark, the engine will quit. More modern vehicles with sophisticated computers may affect the way the vehicle runs. These computers help the car run efficiently but can also shut a car down if the fuel/air mixture is not correct. It is possible that your ECU has a stored error code that is causing this problem. My recommendation is to have a professional mechanic come to your location and complete a car starts then dies inspection; so they can pinpoint the root source of this issue.
