Q: Engine will crank but not fire, seems like fuel is not getting received.

asked by on February 27, 2017

My old van has had a lot of minor work done on it and I've seem to keep a running for over six years with minimal repairs. On a wet day, I stalled out while driving through a parking lot. Since then, four days ago, it is cranking but not firing, starting. Have used starter spray, jump the battery, and replaced The idle air control. The idle air control has been replaced several times under warranty with my other mobile mechanic. The fuel pump was replaced three years ago but it was a bad job, so the fuel gauge does not read and I often have to give it a little extra gas to keep it idling. What part do you think it is? Do I need a new fuel pump? Or is this another idle air control issue? Thanks in advance, Deb

Car won't start strong smell of gas when I try to start it
Odds are, if you smell gas while cranking the engine, it's getting fuel. It's probably not getting spark.
