Car will not start and suspect a communication probelm between the modules. Do you have a tech who is good with the CAN bus system and diagnosing ignition problems? Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the battery, particularly the terminal connections? Are they corroded? Battery was 12.8 volts but I ran it down during the intial trouble shooting. I trickle charged it back to 12.8V and even had Interstate load test the battery. Its 99.9% good Mechanic's Assistant: What is the make/model/year of your car? I also completed a hard reset of the ECU and drained and charge in the system while the battery was recharging. 2005 LandRover LR3 4.4L V8 Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your LR3 yourself? What have you tried so far? I have a basic OBDII reader but I can not get it to connect with my Andriod App. Prior to the no start problem, I did get a U0167 fault code Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? I will need a tech that can come out to me as the car will not start or run. I also checked the starter relay, fuel relay, and all the fuses in the engine.

I suppose the immobilizer control module could be faulty causing this code. However if you suspect there's a bus communication issue you may want to check the bus circuit first. A typical CAN bus signal uses two wires, CAN high and CAN low. CAN low starts at about 2.3 volts and will be pulled down to ground for communication. CAN high starts at about 2.7 volts and will be pulled up to 5 volts for communication. The two signals should mirror each other during communication. As one gets pulled down in voltage, the other should go up in voltage. These vehicles are known for problems with the sunroof drains getting pinched near the a-pillars. (Verify that the drains are working properly so the water damage problem does not return). Another area that has been a problem is at the control modules near the firewall in the engine compartment. Be sure to check for water damage. CAN problems are usually diagnosed by removing the most likely module that is causing the problem and checking the CAN bus signal at that module. You may wanna start by disconnecting one module at a time to see if communication resumes if you're having any sort of communication issues with your scan tool. The last module to be disconnected that allows the communication circuit to resume to normal would likely be and the root cause of any communication issues you're having (including code U0167). It has been a pleasure working with you so far. Keep in mind this is a “starting point”. We can always continue as needed at a later date or at any time. Feel free to run some tests and reply back for further assistance as needed. My goal is to provide you with excellent service.
