Q: Can a knock sencer make ur trany slip or lose gears

asked by on

Can a knock sender make trany go out
My car has an automatic transmission.

While anything is possible, in 35 years, I’ve never seen a knock sensor be the root cause of a transmission issue or failure. The knock sensor is basically a microphone that listens to the engine for any knocking during the combustion process. Knocking can be caused by poor fuel quality or a number of ignition/fuel issues. If the knock sensor detects any knocking, it tells the engine control unit to adjust the ignition timing until the knock is no longer detected. It has no direct effect or action on the transmission itself.

Causes of engine knock can be found here.
