P2262 code definition

Turbo Boost Pressure Not Detected-Mechanical

What the P2262 code means

P2262 is an OBD-II generic code. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the variable geometry turbocharger electronic actuator and has detected a problem with the turbo control. The ECM then activates the Check Engine Light and stores the P2262 code.

What causes the P2262 code?

  • The turbocharger actuator has electronic sensors that monitor turbo vane position and will send feedback signals on the CAN bus to the ECM for turbo vane position and amount of boost.

  • A turbocharger electronic actuator.

  • A bad turbocharger or the vanes are binding.

  • An open or short on the return signal control wire back to the ECM from the turbo controller.

  • The ECM has an internal fault or defect.

What are the symptoms of the P2262 code?

  • The Check Engine Light will be illuminated and the code P2262 is set in the ECM memory as a fault.

  • The engine will have low or no turbo boost and lack power on acceleration or under load.

  • The ECM may go into failure management mode causing the engine to have reduced power.

How does a mechanic diagnose the P2262 code?

  • Scans codes and documents the code in the ECM and then looks at the freeze frame data for failure

  • Measures the voltage to and from the turbo control actuator.

  • Measures the resistance of the actuator following the pinpoint test for specification

  • Checks the harness for short or broken wires

  • Follows the manufacturer pinpoint testing for further diagnostics of the turbocharger

Common mistakes when diagnosing the P2262 code

  • Clearing ECM memory codes before checking the freeze frame data for the main failure problem, so the failure may be duplicated and repaired.

  • Failing to clear the ECM codes after the codes are fixed.

  • Running the soot clean out routine with a turbocharger problem present.

How serious is the P2262 code?

Code P2262 is for the turbocharger control of the turbo or the turbo is broken and needs replaced. The lack of turbo boost will cause a loss of engine power and may cause internal engine damage if the turbo vane is stuck in full boost mode. This can cause an overboost condition and could damage the engine.

What repairs can fix the P2262 code?

  • Replacing the turbocharger control actuator assembly
  • Replacing the turbocharger assembly
  • Repairing or replacing a wire harness or connection to the control actuator

Additional comments for consideration regarding the P2262 code

Code P2262 may cause an engine to feel like it has excessive power over what it normally has. This may seem like a good thing but the over boost can cause the engine to blow holes in the pistons and blow head gaskets. Do not drive the vehicle till it is fixed if an over boost condition is happening.
