How Much Does a Mechanic Make in North Dakota?

When it comes to automotive technician jobs in North Dakota, you’ll find that demand is high and supply is low. This means that mechanics in the state can command higher salaries than in other areas of the country. Across the US, the average annual mechanic salary is around $37,000 per year. However, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average annual salary for a mechanic in North Dakota is actually $42,570, which is significantly higher than many other states. With that being said, you can’t just assume that you’ll earn that much. Pay varies, and those who are the most employable will earn the most.

Get educated before entering the industry

Before you do anything else, you need to ensure that you have the minimum education necessary to enter the automotive repair industry. Generally, this means completing a one-year course at a community college, trade school or tech school. Some courses last longer, and provide a firmer foundation. You will find quite a few education providers in North Dakota, including the following:

If you’re already a certified mechanic and you’re interested in working with YourMechanic, submit an online application for an opportunity to become a mobile mechanic. * Williston State College * Bismarck State College * Rasmussen College * Lake Region State College * University of North Dakota

On completing your course, you will be qualified for an entry-level position in the automotive industry. However, you need to continue your education and training if you want to earn a higher auto mechanic salary. Perhaps the single best decision is to get ASE certified. These certifications are provided through the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, and you can create a path that works for your career goals.

For instance, you might want to specialize in one particular area, or you might decide that going for your ASE certified master technician status is the best option. This allows you to earn more and be a better fit for a wider range of positions with dealerships, repair centers, and other employers. It will also play a role in your success should you decide to open an independent shop.

For some mechanics, dealership certification is a good addition to ASE certification. Dealership certification requires that you complete a specific course that teaches you about one particular automaker’s vehicles and technology. For instance, you might become Honda certified, or Chevrolet certified. Once you gain this credential, you’ll be more employable by dealerships that sell this particular brand.

There are many potential career paths here, and with the right preparation, they can all be rewarding.
