My car does not go when I step on the gas pedal

Throttle Position Sensor Replacement $129.21 - $646.10 Get a Quote

Hi There, It sounds like you are describing the symptoms of a failing throttle position sensor. The throttle position sensor monitors the throttle position of the throttle plate inside the throttle body in relation to your foot position on the gas pedal. Based upon the inputs from the sensor reading your foot’s position on the pedal, the ECU then makes the direction to supply more or less fuel to the motor. When this sensor is not working properly, this can cause intermittent responses when pressing the gas pedal. I would suggest having a professional from Your Mechanic come to you home to diagnose and inspect your vehicle.

Bad gas mileage, high idling

Idle speed for your vehicle should be between 725 and 750 RPM. So, it is idling high. Common causes for this include vacuum leaks and a faulty idle air control (IAC) valve. Either of these issues could also affect fuel...

There is a jerking that seems to be coming from the throttle sensor

Without more detail of the symptoms, there are several possibilities that could cause this. As you may know, there are a few different sensors related to the fuel delivery in your car's intake system - one of which is the...

Automatic transmission

Hello. This is a very robust transmission, as your advanced mileage demonstrates! The downshift issue you have described is likely either the governor (possibly a broken spring?), internal to the transmission, or an issue related to the throttle position sensor,...

how to tell if my mass air sensor or my tps is the problem?

You did not state the model and size of engine you have? Most Nissan distributor engines have a base timing between 13 and 17 degrees BTDC (before top dead center) at 700 to 800 RPM. If you have the timing...

Would the TPS be the same as an APPS for a diesel

The throttle position sensor on this diesel is the APPS mounted on fuel pedal.

How often are you suppose to replace a new throttle sensor ?

The throttle position sensor (TPS) is only replaced if it tests bad. So there is no fixed replacement interval or "lifetime" for that part. They do occasionally fail though, in which case the Check Engine Light will illuminate with specific...

I changed the throttle body on my Murano and ever since gas pedal is unresponsive? I did all 3 relearn procedures. What is wrong? 2004 Nissan Murano

Hello - there are a couple of possibilities for the "failure to relearn" of the new throttle position sensor". If engine management recognizes an invalid parameter during the relearn process (low system voltage, AC compressor kicking on, etc.), it cancels...

Had a p0507 code. Replaced the throttle body and the code came back.

The issue is the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve is not working properly. Try removing the IAC valve and cleaning it and then put it back on. If the light is still coming on, then I recommend replacing the IAC...

03 Nissan Altima wouldn't accelerate over 50 mph.

Hi there. This sounds like the gas pedal position sensor or the throttle body position sensor is not working properly. You can try manually resetting the gas pedal position sensor. To do this, perform the following: Turn on the...
