Q: My battery is not fully charged and gradually decreasing with decrease in temperature in my 2012 Prius

asked by on January 09, 2017

Dear Sir, first of all thanks for this forum where we can get advice from experts like you. I bought my PHV last year in April. The battery worked well but I noticed decrease in charge limit with the change in weather. For example in July August September I got expected 26 kms after charge where as the same decreased in October November and December to 17 kms. Please advise what to do or its a normal issue. Regards

My car has 67547 miles.
My car has an automatic transmission.

Hello. Most of the time this is caused by a programming issue. I have seen these cars need to be re-programmed for issues with the batteries not fully charging in cold weather. If the vehicles computer have not been updated in a while I would have this done at the dealer. In other cases it may be the battery itself. Though this is still a fairly new vehicle I have seen the batteries fail prematurely. This system is best left to the dealer to repair.

Will the mass airflow sensor stop my car from reaching proper acceleration?
Hi, thanks for writing in. A faulty mass airflow sensor can certainly effect power, performance, and economy. If the engine computer does not read the mass airflow or any other sensor, it relies on basic settings to run. It does...
The back end of my car is sitting lower than it should and won't move more than a foot in drive or reverse.

Smoke comming from vent by windsheild wiper on hood and tail pipe.

Is there a dogbone mount on the driver's side? There's one on the passenger side, but it seems fine 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier
Hi - no, there is only the one dogbone link up top. There are 2 motor/transmission mounts (https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/symptoms-of-a-bad-or-failing-engine-mount) where the engine/transmission are supported by the chassis, and these should be inspected for failure. They become soft, and fail with time,...
