I have a 2007 nissan altima that wont start . When I press on my [brakes](/topics-brake-nissan/) to start it , it is not acknowledging that im pressings my brakes so its still telling me to press them . I had a new starter put it and a new brake light switch and it is still not starting Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the brake fluid? How's the level and when was it last changed? My brake light was on earlier this year so I put brake fluid in it but I cant recall when the last time that it was changed Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Altima yourself? What have you tried so far? No I have had someone with experience to do it . He have tried a new starter , battery , and brake light switch . And it still not starting Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the Mechanic to know before I connect you? Thats it

Good morning Tasia, it's nice to meet you, sorry you are dealing with this. Is the engine cranking and not starting or no cranking at all?

I have a push to start car . So in order for it to start I have to press brakes while pressing the start button . When I do that al the lights and radio comes on but its still telling me to press my brakes so its not starting . Its just switching to on
Automotive Expert
Ok First, leave the key fob in the house and check and see if the [steering wheel](/topics-steering-wheel-nissan/) is locked, if it isn't then you have an issue with the steering lock control module. If it's locked as it should be, then I would double-check the new brake light switch. If it's out of adjustment it won't work, it's also possible it's bad out of the box, especially if it's aftermarket and not a part from the dealer. Please try these and let me know what happens. Thank you.

The steering wheel is locked . And the brake light switch had been tooken out and replaced, moved around , wiggled and still no luck
Automotive Expert
Is the switch from the dealership or a parts store?

Part store but this is the second one that I have brought . I had the same issue a few months ago and brought a new switch . So that switch was barely used . Brought a brand new one yesterday and still no luck
Automotive Expert
Ok, I need a moment to pull up the wiring diagram, we are going to need a test light to check and make sure the switch is working as it should. One moment.

Ok
Automotive Expert
Do the brake lights actually work?

Not now . Its not adknowledging my brakes so they wont light up but they were working before this issue
Automotive Expert
Ok, I would like you to check the fuse. Fuse #7 in the fuse box inside the car and make sure it's not blown. Here is a diagram of the fuse box, I highlighted #7 for you. Let me know.
Automotive Expert
Sorry, I forgot to attach the link.

I brought new fuses as well . The fuse under the steering wheel on the left side under it were changed as well
Automotive Expert
Ok, then you need to get a test light and check the power to the brake light switch. If the fuse is good and there isn't any power to the switch, then the wire is broken, if there is power going into the switch, you will have to make sure there is power coming out when the pedal is pressed. If not, the switch is no good.

what if its the wire thats broken . Is that able to get fixed V

where do I get a test light from ?
Automotive Expert
Yes, if the wire is bad, typically you will find the break in the wire or replace the wire. You can get a 12 volt automotive test light at any parts store. If you don't know how to use it, watch some videos on youtube to see how to use it and let me know when you are ready. It's easier then me trying to type out everything you need to use it.

I place it on my brakes ?
Automotive Expert
No, you have to test the wiring at the brake light switch under the dash. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hlna\_kUt7As](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hlna_kUt7As)

Could it be my belt ?
Automotive Expert
No, the belt has nothing to do with this. Have you tried putting the key fob on the slot to the left of the steering column? The whole fob not just the hidden key. I don't think it's going to help because the brake lights aren't working which really points to an issue with the switch or the wiring to the switch.

I have tried that
Automotive Expert
Ok, it's boiled down to checking the brake switch and wiring. Once you have that done, please let me know the results.

I smell antifreeze.
If you smell antifreeze inside of your truck then it may indeed be the heater core. Most of the time the passenger side floor will also get wet from antifreeze if there is a leak in the core. A leak...
Brake pedal goes all the way to the floor
A sinking pedal is often a sign that there is a leak somewhere in the brake's hydraulic system. Sometimes a problem of this nature may render a vehicle unsafe to drive, as braking systems relies on sealed pressure to operate....
Taillights and brake lights don't work
The multifunction switch has a manufacturer recall that is active on the switch since 2011. The switch may be the cause of all lights on the rear to fail. The recall ID is 11V352000, and is dated 7/13/2011. I recommend...

Hi there. Sounds to me as if your vehicle is having issues with its transmission. This usually points towards an internal problem. Your transmission is made up of multiple gears and solenoids inside. If one of these components is malfunctioning...

Hello there, thank you for asking about your car. It's highly unlikely that brake fluid entered the combustion chamber. The noise also would not be caused by using synthetic oil instead of conventional oil. As for the oil pressure, I'm...
1989 Chevy Celebrity dies, is it the fuel shut off switch?
First of all, I don't see that your vehicle is equipped with an inertia switch. Secondly, even if it were, it would not cause the problem you are having. A tripped inertia switch would prevent power from getting the fuel...
